Zzzzzzzz…

questionmarkMy frustration with O eating solid food is SO yesterday.  Now we’re on to something totally new.

He’s waking during the night.

Oscar has slept through the night since he was nine weeks old.  We had a few weeks of wake ups in the beginning as he was learning to fall back to sleep by himself.  But he never woke up to eat.

Last week he woke up two nights in a row and he was STARVING!  So I fed him, of course, figuring it was a growth spurt.  Sure enough, after two nights he stopped.

Fast forward a week.  He woke up again, same time.  First three nights I fed him, figuring it was still a bit of a growth spurt.  But it’s been 5 nights now.  Can it still be a growth spurt of sorts?  Or is it now a habit?

A bad habit?

Last night it was weird though… it wasn’t his usual 3am wake up.  It was 12:30am.  1.5 hours after his last feed of the night.

I’m wondering if I’m reading it wrong.  I was in a dead sleep and was all out of sorts, so I just fed him automatically.  But I’m wondering if it’s just that he needed a bit of comfort… or needed to be laid back down.  See, when I went in, he was sitting up in his crib, screaming crying.  Is it just that he couldn’t figure how to lay back down?

Am I creating bad habits by feeding him automatically?

I’ve got to follow my own advice and just listen to him for a few minutes.  Watch his body language. Stop panicking.  Let him tell me what’s on the go.

His little life has been turned upside down lately. Eating solids now three times a day (with gusto, I might add, now that he’s discovered baby oatmeal!), spending HOURS (and by “hours”, I mean SIX/day) at the Fair, not getting his normal bedtime routine happening, we’ve had lots of company lately… all sorts of things are happening.  No wonder he’s off his game.

I think we need a few days to get back on his routine.  Wow, I can’t believe how much he likes a routine.

And so do I.

Anyone else been thrown for a loop at 6 - 7 months?

I’d say growth spurt. Have you tried going in to soothe w/out feeding?

Yup, growth spurt it was. Stopped after 5 nights (I think the day I wrote this was the first day in 5 that he didn’t wake up). The first couple of nights I tried to soothe without feeding and then realized he was STARVING and it was probably a growth spurt (duh), I just didn’t think they lasted 5 nights. Oh well, live and learn!
