If you had the opportunity to wear a parachute when you jumped off a building… would you?
And when you go bungee jumping, you DO wear the harness, right?
Well that’s the basic concept of the new Safety 1st Air Protect car seat; the difference between hitting the ground after you’ve jumped off a building, vs. hitting the ground wearing a parachute.
Think about it.
Scary hey? When you break it down like that, there’s just no messing around.
Car crashes are the number 1 cause of death in Canadian children (Cartest.ca) and according to Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation, side impact crashes represent 20-30% of all fatalities in passenger vehicles with head trauma being the most common of all injuries suffered by children. (Here’s a video that should really resonate with all of you moms: Air Protect Head Drop. This video CHILLED ME TO THE BONE. As it should. It’s pretty terrifying, but it gets the point across. Egad, does it ever.)
Through the precise release of air, Air Protect™ shields children from side-impact intrusion and immediately reduces crash forces where the child is most vulnerable – the head.
Now, I didn’t have the $300.00 to buy one and test it out for a few weeks, nor were they giving them away to all of us in attendance so I cannot attest to how my son fits in it, how it rides, how it installs, but what I DO know is what I want my son strapped in when it’s time for the next stage in car seats. I DO know that Ryan from Safety 1st showed me that they care. They care about kids safety. They care about moms’ feedback. They care about their product. They believe in it.
And I do too.
So when it’s time for Oscar to move up to the next car seat, guess what he’ll be in?
This is my baby boy.
He’s getting the safest one I can find.

We have a Britax Marathon and have been very happy with it in the 12 months since we have started using it. DS is now 18 months old and 30 lbs. We are practicing extended RF which is another good way to protect the little ones. I did a TON of research before we bought our seat and I’m very happy with it. Other contenders were Evenflo Triumph Advance, Britax Boulevard, Recardo, Graco Covertable (I forget the specific info).
My friend actually wrote an article on this and I think it’s a fabulous idea!
It’s so innovative and makes sense –any extra car safety features for children is a thumbs up in my book!
@alison, I heard the Britax were amazing and a big favourite among friends of mine.
@DG, I know… it’s hard to believe that it took this long to come up with the technology and get this seat out there!
